About

I'm Murray, a software developer and avid cyclist and hiker based in Perth, Australia.

Software

Whilst comfortable across the software stack, I have a particular interest in networking, infrastructure, Kubernetes, and distributed systems. While most of my professional experience is with Python, I have a fair bit of experience with, and much prefer writing Golang. If we're going for labels, you'd likely find me comfortable in Platform and DevOps roles.

At the time of writing (early 2026), I'm taking a career break before searching for and hopefully securing some short term contract work throughout the rest of 2026 (from late March/April). If you're hiring and you'd like to get to know me a bit better, please reach out via LinkedIn, I'd love to hear from you. I have roots in Perth, however, I'm keen to explore roles Australia wide, particularly in Melbourne.

Hobbies

Hiking at Brinkley Bluff on the Larapinta Trail
Brinkley Bluff, Larapinta Trail

My life away from the computer involves lots of time outdoors. Over the past ten years or so I've been chipping off Australia's (and recently New Zealand's) great long distance hiking and biking adventures.

On the list: Great Ocean Road (Vic), Australian Alps Walking Track (Vic, NSW, ACT).
